VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

by M. Mikitanova 2009-07-21, 28 people found this review helpful
I purchased my unit to remove stubborn spills and stains from our radiant heated tile and hardwood floors. We have one large (105 lb.) dog (four dogs when our daughter brings her three for a visit) and two teenagers still at home. So there are always spills and stains on the floors. The radiant heat is great, except it really bakes on spills. The worst of them, and this is the primary reason I purchased the unit, is baked on dog drool. Whether from giving the dogs treats, or from residue on dog toys, that stuff has proven to be almost impossible to remove by conventional means--at least not without spending an inordinate amount of time working on them. I tried conventional mopping, scraping with a razor blade, and even using a car buffer to rub them out. Nothing worked satisfactorily. The Haan removed them all easily! The kids spill little blobs of milk on the dining room hardwood floor as they traverse through the room, and we also had a lot of trouble removing those after they "cooked." Using the products recommended by the manufacturer of our wood floor would only remove them after a lot of scrubbing, and often you had to "hit" those several times to get them removed. Again, the Haan removed them easily.

I had researched this purchase by reading beforehand the buyer's comments posted here. One of the comments I saw a couple of times concerned the leaving of streaks on the floor after cleaning. I observed this also, but noticed that it was due to the pad being excessively soiled. Our floor was cleaned by vacuum before steaming it, but it was still heavily soiled. The pad collects that grime and when it reaches a certain "saturation" point, it simply smears some of that grime around, thereby leaving streaks. I tested this theory after noticing that after cleaning our large kitchen for quite some time, I was beginning to see some minor streaking being left behind. I examined the pad, which was brown with soil. I changed it to the clean spare pad, and the streaking stopped. Based on this, I'm confident that as we use this steamer and the floor gets increasingly cleaner, streaking will be minimized if not absent altogether.

We have not tried the Sanitizer Tray yet, so we cannot comment on its efficacy.

Suggestions/Criticisms

The handle on my unit will not stay locked in the upright position when at rest. Even when the handle is retracted to its shortest length or the cord is not coiled for storage. It's not a "show stopper" for me, just an aggravation.

Power cord management is just weird they way it's implemented. The design is poor and results in the cord often not being managed at all--it just falls out of whatever clips or guides are present. Again, it's not a big deal. I solved some of that with some nylon cable ties.

Grout lines don't really get cleaned as the pad fibers are not long enough to get down in those little trenches--at least on our floors. It might be kinda neat if there were a special pad with a design just for that. I see some vinyl floors that also have rather deep embossments where this might also be an issue.

90% perfect...

Wonderful product, GREAT deal. Got steamer, 6 pads, carpet adapter & short handle, NO shipping fee, all for $131. The unit works GREAT on tile, just as advertised. Dries quickly & leaves the floor a pleasure to walk on. Grout must still be cleaned manually as the pads don't have a way to get down into the spaces between tile, but this is a minor issue.

The only small 'problem' is using the cleaner on carpet or furniture; you HAVE to use something to soak up the water after steaming. Be aware, the unit only SANITIZES these, it does NOT clean them (You can't use the microfiber pads w/the carpet adapter). It did, however, loosen a greasy stain which could then be (better) picked up by an old towel.

And as odd as it may sound, it's now (almost) a pleasure to mop the floor. Great product, even better combo price.

Great for a home with babies

We bought this product when we found out we were pregnant. We love it and are now no longer worried about our new little one crawling on the floor. This machine cleans the floors in a major way! The machine is so easy to use, light weight and heats up quickly. I love this product!

I love this floor cleaner. I have a thing for clean floors and you can defiantly see the difference between this and a yucky mop. Love it!!!

Worth it!!!

I have been using my Haan for two months now. I have used the Haan on all my floors and used the Haan on all my furniture by coverting the machine into the hand-held. I have suffered from severe allergies and sinus infection all my life. Once I used the Haan, my allergies and sinus infections have been nonexistant. I really attribute this to the Haan because it was the only thing I have done different recently. I truely have discovered relief and owe it to the Haan. I definitely recomment the Haan. It's easy to use and if you are concerned about disinfecting your house, this is your product. It's a small investment that will pay you back after your first use. It has for me because I can breathe again!!!

Well Made

Although this machine doesn't perform miracles as implied on TV, it does do an excellent job of cleaning and sanitizing. The most impressive part is the sturdy design. This machine is well designed and well made with sturdy parts. If you want a quality machine that will last, this one will not disappoint.

Makes cleaning floors as easy as it can be

by FLFan 2010-01-16, 4 people found this review helpful
I love this floor steamer! It has a few flaws, but the ease of cleaning our entire place in under 20 minutes more than makes up for them.

The good: It is incredibly easy to set up and use. I love the adjustable height handle. The velcro pads are simple to pop on & off and clean really well. It is lightweight and small. It cleans well, and the floors dry quickly. It is the onlys steam cleaner I'm aware of that is safe to use on wood laminate floors.

The flaws: The cord is pretty long, but I had to unplug and replug it 4 times to clean. Not a big deal, but I'm used to my long vacuum cleaner cord that lets me go a longer distance. I wish it had a longer cord. As others have said, it does not clean into tile grout. The tile itself shines, though. It also will not fit beside the toilets in the bathroom. Those will have to be done by hand. I'd rate it's cleaning around floor edges an 8. It did pretty well, but it's not perfect.

All in all, it's simple to use, quiet, and does a great job. It makes cleaning the floors, one of my least favorite jobs, a breeze! I highly recommend it.

Short cleaning time

by JH 2010-01-02, 3 people found this review helpful
Nice product. Cleans fairly well and easy to use. Cleaning time is not 20 minutes like claimed - 10-15 minutes at most. Definitely closer to 10 minutes (this includes the 2-3 minutes of warm-up time). Had to constantly refill water tank while using.

A decent value at the price I paid

by G. Iacobone 2010-01-27, 2 people found this review helpful
First off, I actually bought an almost identical package (included the short handle and the carpet tray, but only 2 pads) from Bed Bath and Beyond for $80.00 with a 20% off coupon. I would not have paid $126, but I think it's a good value for what I paid, and here's why:

-It does a good job of cleaning floors without having to lug around heavy buckets and wait for floors to dry.

-The steam lasts a decent amount of time, probably close to the 20 minutes Haan claims (although I've never actually timed it.)

-It's a no-brainer to put together and use. Just fill the reservoir with water, attach the pad, plug in and press the button and you're good to go.

-The unit seems sturdy/well made, especially compared to that other brand made in China, "Shark."

My one complaint would be that the cord is somewhat short. If you live in an apartment or condo, this would be a non-issue, but living in a good-sized house, I have to re-plug (not sure if that's actually a word, oh well ;-) ) before I'm finished. This is a small price to pay for the overall quality and usefulness of the product.

Over all for a day-to-day use in the kitchen works fine

by Bianca 2009-10-12, 2 people found this review helpful
The unit works fine for tiles if the floor is not very dirty.
If you saw the infomercial and expect to clean the butter of the floor, forget about it, but hey the infomercial never really works right?.
The attachment for the counter top I think it's worth it, clean the counter top nicely, but forget the attachment for the carper, it's only soak the carpet not cleaning it.
Over all for a day-to-day use in the kitchen works fine.
