Amazon.com Review: Without the use of cleaning solutions or chemicals, this powerful steam cleaner uses pressurized steam from ordinary tap water to remove tough grease, dirt, and grime from household hard surfaces. After filling its large-capacity, 10-ounce water tank, it only takes a few minutes for the red light on the side of the unit to turn green, indicating that the steamer is ready to be used. Its steam power is ideal for cleaning and deodorizing kitchens, bathrooms, appliances, counter tops, patio furniture, barbecue grills, garbage cans, car tires and wheels, and more. The amount of steam coming from the unit is easy to control and can be adjusted to provide continuous or variable steam. The steamer is lightweight, portable, and extremely versatile, functioning not only as a cleaner, but also as a garment steamer to remove wrinkles from clothing. Convenient accessories also make it possible to clean nooks and crannies in hard-to-reach places. The steamer's attachments include an extension hose, window squeegee, angle adapter, steam concentrator, detail brush, cleaning cloth, funnel, and filling cup. --Catie Unger

A fine machine, as long as you know what you're getting...

by Rebecca Menes 2004-11-13, 798 people found this review helpful
This is a useful tool, but it will not replace anything already in your cleaning closet. It may save your manicure.

First, the machine itself: Small and relatively light weight, but seems sturdy. It takes about a cup of water and turns it into moderately hot steam. The instructions were clear, everything worked as promised. The steam runs out after about 15 minutes. Refilling requires letting the machine cool for a few minutes first.

The nozzle attachments are pretty solid -- there is a fine sprayer and a diffuser. The little brush and the terrycloth upholstery pad are useless. Buy a separate scrub brush with a handle (the kind you use to scrub out pots and pans). Then you hold the steamer in one hand, the brush in the other -- the combination is quite effective.

Washing tile and grout: Very good job, but slow.
The machine does what I bought it to do -- wash dirt and dog pee off of my quarry tile kitchen floor. (I have an 18 year old dog, and he leaks.) Mops were hopeless. Even floor cleaner and a scrub brush did not get it all up, especially did not clean the grout lines very well. The Europro Shark Steamer alone did not do much, either. But the Steamer PLUS spray-on cleaner PLUS scrub brush PLUS sponge and pail of water did an excellent job, although slow. I bought a pot cleaning brush, with a handle, so I could scrub without scalding myself. I sprayed cleaner on the floor (just about any spray cleaner seems to work), then scrubbed while directing a jet of steam at the floor. The dirt really did come out. I can watch the little stream of dirty brown water get blown out of the grout lines. Gross, but impressive. Of course, I then had to mop the dirty water up with a sponge.

So overall, I am pleased with my purchase. However, the cleaner does not replace your closet full of mops and sponges. Let me try to explain what the machine can, and cannot, do.

Cleaning out your cracks: What this machine does best.
Basically, this machine is designed to get crud out of cracks. It sprays steam, which melts the crud and forces it out of the crack. But it doesn't move the crud very far and it doesn't pick it up. You need a sponge or towel or pile of paper towels to pick up the dirty, crud filled water that is created.

The process is effective, but slow. I don't plan to do my whole kitchen floor more than once or twice a year.

What the machine doesn't do:
Wash large surfaces
Pick up the dirt

More Detail:
Washing flat surfaces: slow and not a big improvement.
The machine does include a steam diffuser to wash flat surfaces. It seems to work fine, but it isn't a big improvement over a bottle of Fantastick and sponge.

Washing upholstery: A failure.
The steam diffuser also comes with a little terry cloth for washing upholstery. I tried it on a perfectly filthy wing chair. I couldn't see any improvement and the heat damaged the upholstery (check first -- I didn't care because I am having the chair recoverd.)

Washing Pots: Better and Easier than Brillo.
This was a pleasant surprise. The steamer cleans dirty frying pans without scrubbing.

Cleaning dirty appliances: Works well.
As long as the surface can take the heat, the steamer is quite effective at getting baked on grease and crud off of things like crockpots and the outsides toasters and fryers. Also gets crud that is stuck under faucet handles and stuff.

Cleaning the bathroom: Effective, but slow.
Works pretty well, but slow. Does not clean grout that is very badly stained with mildew, you will still need bleach. But it does get the crud out.

As a clothes steamer: Decent
Steam works okay, but not great. The steam is not hot enough, and it is too energetic. A real steam cleaner produces hot but gentle steam. Also the machine spits a little water. Use the little terry cloth boot (the one that is useless on upholstery) to prevent spitting when steaming clothes.

Carpet:
I have not tried, but I don't think it would do much.

Bottom line:
This tool gets greasy crud out of cracks and melts it off of small, hard surfaces.

It does not replace any of the tools you already own. You will still need surfactant (like Fantastick) and a scrub brush with a handle. (A toothbrush is be useful for small cracks.) But it makes your brush and Fantastick about ten times as effective, and about 1/10 the work. And you won't scratch the surfaces.

I hope this review has been useful.

A simple steamer cleaner

by A man 2004-08-23, 112 people found this review helpful
Accessories are easy to connect, and the unit looks simple enough. After I poured about 250cc of water, waited for five minutes, I tried it on cleaning my bath room mirrors and glass.
The squeegee cleans mirror clearly when it's moved slowly.
With the detail brush attachment, the unit can generate lots of steam and clean thick soap scum easily. However, the steam creates lots of water, needs to be prepared for that. Say, some towel. One fill of water runs for about 15 to 20 minutes on my unit. Overall, it meets my expectation.

Not quite what I expected

by happy steamer 2004-09-06, 82 people found this review helpful
I have hard water, and had hoped it would help with that somewhat. It didn't. It did dissolve soap scum instantly, but for tougher stains you could be steaming them for a half an hour or more. The mirror attachment works okay, it does cause excessive dripping. It is somewhat cumbersome to work with, but I imagine with practice I'll get better at it. I had hoped it would be the miracle promised, but honestly, it just doesn't cut it.

Great bathroom cleaner!

by V. Smith 2005-09-25, 28 people found this review helpful
I bought my steamer specifically to clean the tiny spaces in my bathrooms. I love it! It gets that yucky stuff from behind the faucet out with practically no effort! I do wish it held more water so it would work longer between refills, but otherwise I am very happy with my purchase.

How to use the Shark Steamer

This small flask-shaped steamer delivers a light stream of steam that you can direct onto stains, dirt or onto wrinkles in your clothes.

You fill up the container, allow it to heat to boiling, and then press the hand lever to expel the steam.

Applications include:

The grease on your oven door: with a scrubbing sponge, you can remove spills after you roast or bake. Even self-cleaning ovens have places that the heat doesn't reach to remove grease and spills. If you use a steamer after roasting or baking, you can keep your oven very clean. You still have to wipe or scrub, but the steam loosens the soil without the need for strong chemicals.

Carpet depressions: After moving furniture, your carpet may have some deep depressions. Light steaming, along with brushing with a scrub brush, can bring the carpet back up in no time.

Outdoor charcoal grills: these are notoriously hard to clean. Steaming the grill allows you to scrub off the grease more easily.

Clothes: Steam out wrinkles, save on dry cleaning

Car detailing

Kitchen cleaning, especially around the sink, stove and oven. Nice for fridge shelves.

Bathroom cleaning, especially TILE GROUT. I like to use it around the commode, followed by a clean rag with a non-toxic environmentally-safe spray disinfectant.

Things we like
The cord is long enough to move around a room. The bottle is relatively light. It doesn't steam for all that long, but is easily refilled. The shape has nice egonomics--we like the trigger for steam release.

The attachments are good--especially the detail brushes, which we use most of all. The inclusion of scrub sponges indicates that this doesn't remove dirt on its own--you have to scrub. The steam does loosen dirt well, without chemicals. We are sensitive to chemicals and the steamer also pays itself back in gallons of pricey cleaners over the years.

Things we didn't like
Not many objections here--nice styling, good attachments.

Summary
If you want to clean with a minimum of chemicals, the Euro Shark Bottle is a great addition to your home. Just remember, you will have to scrub the dirt after steaming it--this loosens dirt, doesn't remove it. This won't remove stains from carpets--for that, you need carpet cleaner. Overall, a versatile small appliance.

Effective, effective, effective

by W. Zollo 2007-03-28, 24 people found this review helpful
This product is best for bathrooms, in particular, the toilet. On those grounds alone it's worth owning.

It effectively sterilizes (hold it in one place for five seconds) and cleans under the base of the toilet and I shan't reveal to you what the Euro-Pro steams out. (it is best to have an old towel on hand to wipe surfaces dry.)

It works agreeably on baseboards with the scrubbing attachment.

Shower doors.
I realized it was much more successful for the smaller area's (shower head, handles, shelves and tracking) that tend to turn lovely colors from hard water minerals. The entire door -- best to spray with a cleaner first then tackle with the Super Steamer, it's the most effective way if not the fastest. The Euro-Pro alone won't get the soap scum off the door with or without attachments.

It does work well on pans and window screens of all things.

But I'm most satisfied with its perfomance in the bathroom. It's very nearly too ghastly to tell you how brilliant it is. However, if you live with or clean up after males...you'll understand.

piece of garbage

by Critter 2005-06-26, 57 people found this review helpful
I used the steamer once and it didn't clean anything. I put it in my garage and went to go try it again and now the lid is jammed on. Customer service told me it was not supposed to be stored with the lid on, but that is nowhere in the instruction book. They were very rude to me and told me it is obvious that you do not store a steamer with the lid on. They refused to fix it unless I paid a great deal for the repair. The machine is garbage and the customer service is even worse. Do not waste your money.

not for big cleaning jobs

by eieio2u2 2006-01-29, 20 people found this review helpful
Has many uses for the imaginitive mind. It does produce steam. Pressure isn't very powerful. Becomes a warm mist if you hold your hand 1 feet away from the end of the nozzle. It is hot at the very tip of the nozzle. If you only use the item without the accessories, note that just steam by itself won't clean most things. It works better is you use the attachments like the small scrubber. I originally bought this item to clean my webber grill. Needless to say, it didn't work out very well. Without the attachment, you can see it slightly pushing the grease around but that's about it. There's not enough water or water pressure to wash away the grease. The small reservoir of water and the time it takes to cool down doesn't make this item ideal for large cleaning jobs, such as cleaning a grill. While it's not ideal for grease, it does work. Such as cleaning dirt or bathroom grit. A bigger water reservoir and more water pressure is needed. Although I think euroshark has a better steamer on the market. Note, make sure to drain all the water in the steamer before you re-fill it. Also for cleaning you might want to try spraying a cleaning solution to the area before steaming to loosen any dirt or debris. If you are going to try to clean grease, you'll need to spray a jet of water or wipe the area with a cloth after you steam it. Otherwise all the grease and dirt will remain there, just slighty more wet from the steam.

Gave it One Star Only Because ZERO STARS NOT AN OPTION

This is junk. J-U-N-K I bought two because the product sounded so good. One will not work at all. It has never generated any steam (and I used distilled water.) The second one will generate steam at a lower than expected pressure for about 1-3 seconds at a time and then you have to wait 10 - 15 seconds for it to regenerate. It's benefits are mimimal at best. The TV commercial obviously does not use the same unit as sold, since continuous steam is simply not possible. I tried to clean the magnetic seal around my microwave oven's door. Since there is just 1-3 seconds of steam I could heat only about 1 - 4 inches of the seal, and then I would wipe off the water. I would then wait for steam to regenerate and repeat this process. After several minutes the seal was barely cleaner than when I began, and certainly no cleaner than it would have been had I simply wiped it down with a damp rag (which would have been much quicker.) If it had generated 10-15 seconds of steam at a time it might be useful, but as it works now I won't waste my time with it again. The results are no better than you would achieve wiping the surface with a warm wet rag (without cleaning solution), which obviously is not sufficient for most cleaning situations. I will be returning my units. It is sad to say, but Euro-Pro is simply ripping off consumers and somebody should put a stop to it.

great little steamer

by L. Narvaez 2007-09-15, 12 people found this review helpful
I bought this steamer in hope of cleaning my grout in my kitchen, it cleaned wonderfully, it maybe small but dont let the size fool you. I called Stanley Steamer to see how much they would charge me to do this they wanted a $1.00 a tile, which that meant at leat $500, which they couldnt guarantee everything would come out. I bought this little thing and I did my whole kitchen beautifully for the price of the steamer and a few rolls of paper towels, and alot of bending. I knew my husband would have never paid the 500. and now I have to use whenever I need it, because with 3 kids and 2 cats I will need it often. The grout came out like new!!
