Great little steamer but that's just about all it is....

by Busy Mom 2008-10-26, 213 people found this review helpful
I give 5 stars for the steamer, and 1 star for their revolutionary cleaning solution.

Ok, let me say that I love my Monster Steamer for the steamer part only. The cleaning solution only lasts for like 5 minutes for each bottle (you get two bottles fore each shipment). If you already have a steamer that you love and works for you, then you probably don't need this.

I purchased the lifetime free supply of the cleaning solution but what happens is they charge you $15 for shipping every month and you get two tiny little bottles. Totally not worth it. I'm going to cancel the shipment of the bottles and just use my own cleaning solution that I buy at the grocery store for a lot cheaper. I did try pouring in a different cleaning solution into the reservoir but it started bubbling up and I don't think the Monster steamer liked that too much since after it bubbled up some, it stopped pulling in my solution into the tubing. I cleaned it out as best I could and when I got my first shipment of the Monster cleaning solution, I poured it in the reservoir and it started working again. So, all I do now is spray my favorite store bought solution on the area that I wish to clean and steam over it. As far as I'm concerned it works just as well as the monster cleaning solution does (since all the steamer does is spray ever so often a bit of the solution over the area you are steaming).

The steamer will not revolutionize the way you clean your house. Let me break the news to you now. You will still need to scrub some. It does not get all the things off as easy as the infomercial shows. But, to their defense, I was able to clean my oven in about 15 minutes using the attachments that they provided (again, I did have to use some elbow grease).

With the steamer, I was able to:

- Get some grease stains off my stove top that I was never able to remove before. I did have to steam it a lot though and the little brush attachment tool that came with it flattened out rather quickly.

- Easily clean my cabinet drawers from the old sauce drippings and who knows what else that got caked on there. Also good for Doors, doorknobs and baseboards.

- Easily clean behind the sink faucets and toilet seats where the bolts go that keep the seat onto the toilet.

- Easily get soap scum and toothpaste gunk off counters.

- Was able to get bubble gum off in 5 seconds that was stuck on the carpet in my son's bedroom for about a month.

- While mopping the floor, was able to remove the stubborn food items that were clinging for all their worth. I'm not able to remove them with a swifter mop easily but am able to with the steamer if I sit the steamer on top of it for a few before I mop it. It usually comes right off. But, it does take some effort. The straps that hold the steamer over your shoulder while you mop is a bit akward. You've got to hold the steamer with one hand (pressing the steamer lever too) while mopping with the mop in the other hand. It would have made more sense to put a lever on the mop so you could have one hand free to help your other hand mop the floor. But that is my humble opinion.

- I had a leak in the back of my fridge and when I pulled the fridge out there was all this syrupy goo stuck on the floor. I mean, who knows how long that was there. We've only been in the house for a year and that goo could have been there forever. It would have taken me at least an hour to clean that icky goo off with the cramped space that I had available to me to move about in, but with the steamer, I was able to get it clean in 15 minutes. Yes, it took some muscle work though. I used the mop attachment, attached a towel to it and steamed it for a good while. then I mopped hard in that area. After I was done, the floor looked good as new.

I also noticed that my son's and husband's asthma improved some.

With the steamer, I was not able to:

- Get all the oil grease off the stove fan (whatever you call it). I mention this because that was one of the things that they showed could be done so easily.

- It is very hard to clean the BBQ grill that I have with the steamer. I don't have a stainless steel BBQ grill so I can't use the stainless steel attachment that is provided. The plastic scrub attachment is weak. Lots of scrubbing.

- Get water stains off of the bathtub. And as far as the bathtub is concerned, it seems that the steamer is only good for removing the soap scum buildup.

- Clean the inside of the toilet. I've not been able to get the rings off from within the toilet. And do I really want to put my steamer head in my toilet? Seems gross to me.

- Clean my mirrors. I guess maybe this is user error. Maybe I'm using too much steam, but I get too much steam and water on the mirror.

- Remove odors (when using their cleaning solution). It just doesn't work. Sorry Monster 1200 guys.

- The steamer is not ready to go in 20 seconds (is that what they say?). I recall it being a very small amount of time. It takes about 2 minutes for the steamer to be fully ready to go.

All in all, I like using it for steam purposes only. Not for the cleaning action. I love the power of the steam that comes out of it. And yes, the steam strength lasts up until the end when you need to refill it again. I had some experiences with it leaking but discovered that it was because I didn't attach the reservoir on properly. If it's on properly, then it shouldn't leak. Some drops do drip out of the nozzle but I noticed that on the infomercial too.

I do have to tell you though that I've burned myself on it every time I have used it. No matter how careful I am, it never fails. I've burned myself by trying to wipe something while steaming at the same time (smart, yah, I know). I've burned myself while unscrewing the cap to pour in more water (the metal screw on the cap is hot!). It only took me one time to realize that I should unscrew the cap with a towel. Most of the time, I've burned myself when refilling water while it was hot after it has run out. If you pour too rapidly steam and hot little drops of water will blow out of the top like an angry volcano and the spray will burn everything that it touches. I've burned myself when removing/adjusting attachments that were just used. There are a myriad of ways to burn yourself. I'm sure that most of my experiences are because of my natural clumsiness but just thought I'd share for those who care.

Steam Cleaning with Monster 1200

by Clean Queen 2008-12-29, 39 people found this review helpful
This steamer did fine for what I wanted. Basically a cleaner kitchen and bathroom. You do have to use a lot of elbow grease to clean away built up hard water deposits and soap scum but it seemed easier after steaming it loose. Worked great on kitchen faucet and stainless sink.I wanted my tub/shower door tracks clean and it was a huge improvement.
I loved the attachment and cloth cover and steam cleaned my couch and cushions. It even cleaned up the stain the dog left chewing her bone on the couch. It also is good for spot cleaning tile floors.

What I didn't like was continually refilling the water reservoir. As noted by others, the top cap does let the steam escape and I did burn myself a few times contrary to the informercial. Maybe I am not using it correctly but I can't get a tight fit. Regardless, for my uses it is fine. Also, the sanitizing solution does go quickly if you constantly use it. Steaming alone does kill germs and if you use a spray sanitzing cleaner too it serves the same purpose. I won't be buying refills of the sanitzier. For what I paid for the unit I am satisifed. I don't think I would have been if I paid full price from the informercial.

Cap treads stripped

by L. Fuller 2008-10-22, 38 people found this review helpful
I received this steamer last week.Cleaned my oven and fridge-the machine did a great job.Today I started to clean the bathroom, but when I plugged it in,steam started coming out from around the cap.I let it completely cool, carefully removed and replaced the cap, plugged it in and the same thing happened. When I removed the cap for the THIRD time,I noticed tiny pieces of metal coming off from around the hole that leads into the water tank and the pressure cap.Looks like the threads on the cap are stripped!WONDERFUL-I've tossed out all paper work.I've e-mailed the company-now we'll see if I've just thrown the perchase price for this darn thing down the toilet! Monstrous Disaster

by M. John 2009-03-29, 22 people found this review helpful
My husband ordered the Monster 1200 for me for my birthday. He had ordered it 2 weeks prior and paid the extra shipping to receive it on time. Well, it never arrived. A few days after my birthday, he checked on the order and they couldn't find any history of it. That should have been enough of a sign for us to just let it go, but he ordered another one, again paying extra shipping. We finally got both orders on the same day, about 12 days later (both of the floor cleaning kits are on backorder). I just got it out today, and it does nothing that it showed in the infomercial. I was really excited about using it to clean the oven. Not that my oven is a huge disaster, but it didn't budge any grease at all. I was also excited to try it on some tarnished jewelry, and again, nothing. After the long wait, I have ended up with, and been charged for two worthless pieces of junk. We will try to return them, but with the problems already with customer service, I am not hopeful. (Also, not to mention all of the ridiculous shipping we have already paid. About $44.00.) And then what to do with the floor cleaning kits? Oh, and the lifetime supply of Clean Blast solution will cost you $33.00 a month for four bottles, until you cancel it, and then you're done. Lame.

Nothing but hot air!

by Cristina Canziani 2008-12-07, 18 people found this review helpful
I got one of these from the distributor in Maine. For $100 I got a gadget that makes and shoots about 20 minutes worth of steam and makes nothing cleaner, nothing easier. I thought I might as well keep it because it's too much trouble to return and I might use it for steaming wrinkles out of my clothes. What a waste!

When something's too good to be true, it usually is.

Disappointed

by D's wife 2009-01-19, 21 people found this review helpful
Spent 3 weeks recovering from surgery and spent more time than I care to admit watching infomercials. I listened to the Monster 1200 infomercials and I thought this would be just the ticket for my cleaning needs. WRONG! I am sooo disappointed. I started in the bathroom and that's were it ended. I somehow thought that the pressure of the steamer would remove all the hairspray residue on the sink and the floor right below. Didn't touch it. Tried to get soap scum off the tub----nope there, too. I tried to move a few little hairs from my husband's razor---didn't even move it. Basically it was pretty worthless. I just wish I hadn't thrown away the box it came in so I could send it back.

Love this thing

I ordered this off TV and have been very pleased with it. Mine at least seems very well made. Doesn't feel cheap. I used it on my kitchen cabinets and my gosh they look wonderful. It even made them a bit lighter since all the dirt and grime is off them. Our basement leaks and I'm glad to have this to kill mold and mildew. I sure wouldn't want to give mine up. I guess I didn't expect it to blow out of there 90 miles and hour. I just thought it would steam and would loosen things and make it easier to get the stuff off. Also I'm older and this helps so you don't have to scrub so hard to clean things.

Problem Problem Problem DO NOT BUY!!!

Monster 1200 Heavy-duty Handheld Steam Cleaner

Such problems with this company. We placed order on April 26 2009 and were told that in order to purchase this item that we also had to pay $14.95 EACH for 3 different club memberships to receive food coupons. Told the company at that moment to cancel entire order. 3 months later they charged our credit card and shipped out the steam cleaner. I don't know what is going on over there but what a disaster that company is. Do not do business with them. It is not worth the money or the hassle.

There was no return label in the box and now I have to pay for shipping to return something I canceled.

Bad business.

It worked ... for a while

by I. King 2010-01-01, 3 people found this review helpful
Just like another reviewer, I was recovering from surgery and watching way too many infomercials. I always knew about the power of steam, and this seemed impressive. Yes, I'm still kicking myself for not doing my regular job of research. Must have been the meds...

At any rate, it worked for about two weeks before it stopped working. And I mean STOPPED working. I called the company and eventually was able to get a replacement which lasted a week. A WEEK! At the time, I lived alone with two outdoor dogs, so it's not like I had a bunch of stuff to clean. The second one also stopped working. Both times there was no warning...they just stopped. Period.

So in a nutshell, when it works, it does a decent job of steaming clean those crevices that seem to accumulate goo. You have to wait for it to cool before you can put more water in it, and I'm not too sure about the solution they give you to add for extra sanitation. The attachments are just okay, but they do screw on firmly. While the machine appears to be well built, it obviously is not. I'm now looking for another steam cleaner, but this won't be it.
